- In Manitoba neither a collection agency nor a collector is permitted to state an intention to take any action for which it lacks lawful authority.

- In Manitoba BEFORE communicating with Manitoba residents a collection agency must hold a valid collection agency license issued under the Manitoba Consumer Protection Act.
- In Alberta collector can make more than three unsolicited telephone contacts with a debtor on behalf of the same creditor in a 7 day period. A telephone contact is defined as a telephone call from a collector, an automated telephone call, or a voice mail message.
- In Saskatchewan a collection agency is not legally entitled to recover from a debtor any costs it incurs when collecting a debt, including the cost of sending a courier to the debtor's residence to pick up a payment.
